Meet Joseph Harvey
On the surface Joseph Harvey’s sound could be described as treading the proverbial crossroads of Jazz, Blues, Gospel and Rock & Roll. All of which is certainly true, but scratch beneath that vintage lacquer and one finds interesting musical influences drawn from across the musical spectrum.
In between the old-world Jazzisms and rustic pre-war Blues licks, there’s tender touches of romantic balladry, exotic dashes of Calypso and running throughout the music is a beautifully dark thread of Alternative Rock that propels the performances, especially in a live setting. All these different stylistic fibers are then woven together in a musical three-piece suit worthy of riding a streetcar in 1920’s New Orleans or smoking under an old street lamp in 1930’s Berlin.
One of Harvey’s distinguishing traits is his wry lyricism which has a tendency to dabble in the realms of mystery, religion, intoxication, murder and vampirism. Delivered with a singular voice, archaic guitar licks and a dusky songwriting style that is all of his own. All while looking like a guitar playing cross between Gomez Addams and Vincent Price.
To date Joseph has released three self-produced singles on his own label, Murdered Out Records; the country-noir debut “The Rest Is History”, Gospel foot-stomping follow up “The Patron Saint Of Tempting Fate” and the swinging lovelorn lament of “Flirting With Disaster”.
Joseph Harvey’s songwriting horizons continue to expand with every new song and he is preparing to release new music in the very near future.
